More updates and pictures.
I'm getting ready for my cousin's baby blessing.
I'm told that I will get to be blessed in another 4-5 months. I'll get to go to the temple then too.
I'm ready to go. I can't wait to see everyone.
Weston continues to grow every day. At 3 weeks, he was 6lbs 14oz (3rd percentile), 20 1/2 inches (26th percentile) and had HC (head circumference) percentile of 7. When he went into the doctor for his 2 month check-up, he was 12 lbs (53%), 24 inches long (83%) and HC 19%. He has been playing catch-up like crazy. He's even passed his older cousin in size and eats 5oz at a time.
I'm getting so big. I can hold my head up, and I got to play sheriff.
Weston, we are so proud of you and how well you are growing and developing.

Nearly 2mo's old and growing
Getting Bigger
Now that Weston has experienced a major holliday, he decided that he was a big boy, and he grew to fit the part. We did a quick survey and took his measurements at home. We discovered that Weston now weighs 11lbs and is 23inches long. As you can see, he looks pretty big on Nicky for being less than 8 weeks old (2 months on Nov 8).
The outfit he has on in this picture is a 3mo size outfit (not 0-3mo). All of his newborn stuff is starting to get tight on him, especially when he stretches. This kid has long limbs and a good sized neck. I held his little newborn cowboy sleeper and felt sad that he will never be that small again.
Last Thurs he started coo'ing at me and Nicky while I was holding him before going to work. Today he gave us his first, genuine smile. I've been really fortunate to be with him for nearly all of his milestones so far. With my crazy schedule, it's pretty amazing. I think he tries to save them for me. He really seems to know what's going on. Its just amazing! I really think he is amazing and I love him very much.

Weston's so Cute it's SCARY!
Exibited is my point, Below:
In the above picture, baby appears calm, content and happy. I take the binky away from him and it is as if his world has fallen apart as he screams from the TOP of his lungs. (See Below)
Reinsert Binky: It is as if nothing ever happened and he is 100% content again. Oh, silly baby! (Notice the protective hand over the binky. "Don't event think about it, Mom" are his thoughts. He wins this time, but I don't want him so dependant on the binky that he can't sleep or be content while awake without it. Ha,ha- Wish me luck, because like I said, he LOVES the binky!
So, I tried again after he was asleep.

Fast Catch Up
Long time, no blog! This is the first time I've had a chance to get on the blog since we've brought the baby home. Babies are a lot of work! =)
So, how is being a mom with a new baby at home?? WONDERFUL!!! I've really been in maternal bliss and overwhelmed with all of the love that I have for this little guy. =) It's just indescribable. I LOVE caring for my sweet little baby! I could hold him and stare at him with awe for hours every day. He is super snuggly and sweet. He's a pretty consistent every 3 hr eater and usually sleeps well in his own crib. He LOVES the binky. When they first gave him a binky in the hospital, they had to take it away because he liked it so much it made him too relaxed and dropped his blood pressure dropped too low.
Brett, Weston and I are doing great- it's the house you should be worried about! If I had any visitors show up right now I'd be really embarrassed because of the large pile of unfolded laundry, the dishes, bottles, bibs that need washing, the fact that it's 6:30pm and I've been in my pajamas all day and haven't showered, etc. (How did it get to be 6:30pm anyways? And how could it be so hard to take a 10 minute shower? And why am I blogging instead? LOL.) The funny thing is, I am working on it! I feel like I'm constantly working- doing laundry and washing and sterilizing bottles, and yet I just haven't gotten the trick of being on top of it. I'm sure this will get better as get my routine established, but for now it's a little crazy!
Michael McLean has an adoption song that describes it perfectly how I felt the first night he was home and I held him in the chair in his very own nursery:
"There's an ache that's missing today,
There's an emptiness that's been filled.
There's a cloud that's lifting and drifting away,
There's a raging storm that's been stilled.
There's a joy that's real,
There's a wound that's finally healed...
There's a future replacing the past,
There's breathe of new life in the cast...
And there's something perfect happening here and this moment will bury the mountains of fear and through countless tomorrows,
it won't disappear,
There's something that's perfect happening here.
No one knows, because no one can say, that tomorrow
all will be well.
Will the brightest promise that shines on today, shine tomorrow?
No one can tell.
But one thing is sure, and will be forevermore-
when such unselfish love has been given, the world just made more room for heaven!"
[Thank You, Thank You, to our birth parents who have literally forever changed our lives and made our dreams come true with a miracle and happiness that could come in no other way!]
Many of you who read my blog are trying, but have been unable to become parents. I know what a roller coaster it is. It feels like a loss, it feels like grief. I remember feeling frustrated sometimes, wondering why God gave me such a deep desire to become a mother and it wasn't happening. Well, I needed that deep desire in order for this plan to unfold. I know how you love your husbands, you love your life as it is, but it gets really hard sometimes. My favorite advice that someone (I don't even know who it was) said, "Be grateful in advance for your blessings- because they will come." It's hard when we don't know when, or how, but they will come, and God loves you and knows what he's doing. Oh ya, and IT WILL BE WORTH THE WAIT. Sometimes you have to wonder because people who have kids can be so good at complaining about them sometimes, so don't be discouraged with the dumb, "You can have my kids!" or "You're lucky you don't have kids" comments... because what you are going through now, I believe is going to enhance your feelings for your child and it will be much harder to take your kids for granted, or at least make ignorant comments that you don't mean.
and counting.
About Us
- OUR HAPPY FAMILY
- Hi! We're best friends who've been happily married for 6.5 years. We live in SLC and enjoy all 4 seasons. As a couple we loved to travel, snorkel, play at the beach and in the mountains, spend time with our family and friends, hiking, skiing, four wheeling, go to plays, cultural events, festivals - and Jazz games. But something was missing: until we were blessed to become parents through the miracle of adoption, and Weston came into our hearts and home. Brett is a financial planner and now I am happily a stay at home mom. Having a baby has changed our life dramatically- and life is full of more little adventures that mean everything to us. We are enjoying this wonderful, demanding, hard and rewarding chapter of our lives that is raising a child. And we treasure everyday that he grows before our eyes, knowing we can't get it back, we can only try to capture it in memories and pictures. We invite our family and friends as well as Weston's birth family to be able to get a glimpse into the life of miraculous Weston through this blog. We greatly appreciate and love all of you!
