Weston's 9 months old!

Weston turned 9 months old today and we went to his 9 mo check up. He is in 70% for weight, weighing 21 lbs 7 0z (I would have guessed 25 lbs- because he feels that heavy!) 65% for head circumfrence and get this: 100% for height!
The Dr. had some way to estimate adult height which (statistically speaking) estimates that Weston may grow to be about 6' 5"! Being 5' tall myself, and coming from a short family, I find that hillarious. So, we just may have a Jazz player or some other kind of athlete on our hands. Ha,ha. Who knows? One thing is for sure, he sure is a handsome little boy and we love him with all of our hearts!!
The other good news is that he didn't need shots today, to my surprise. Brett got to come to the Dr. apt with us today, which I was glad for because I wanted help holding Weston down for the shots I thought he'd be getting- he's getting so big and strong and wiggly, and he's even figuring out how to throw quite good fits! But, lucky for all of us, NO SHOTS NEEDED TODAY!

Congratulations for 2 reasons:

2)Chris and Laura (Brett's baby sis) got engaged at the party!

26 and counting

On the train
Well, I've entered my LATE TWENTIES. DUN, DUN, DUNNNNNN....
Wow, how time flies by.
Brett took Monday off to celebrate my Birthday and we went to the zoo with Weston. It was so fun and a really nice day, too. We rode the train with my best friend and her family which Weston liked alot. My favorite part was the Merkats. I'll post the cute video if I can figure out how. If not, they're the little animals jumping behind the pic of Weston and me.
Later we got a babysitter and went to Thaifoon to eat my favorite dish, the Evil Jungle Princess. We were eating outside until the thunder clouds and finally rain forced us inside. We then went to Ben's Cookies and got my favorite cookies ever (Ben's Orange Chocolate Chip cookies.)
The next day I went to my niece's play except it started early and I was like 5 minutes late, and totally missed her class alltogether, darnit! But I went with my parents, sister, niece, nephew, brother and sister in law to lunch at Chili's.

First Trip to the Zoo

Me and my sister's family went to the zoo on Memorial Day and decided to get a zoo pass! My sweet sis just added me on as a guest to her family pass for my Birthday Present.

Memorial Day Camping

We went with Brett's family and extended family camping out to the desert past 5 mile pass, along the Pony Express Trail. It was so fun! We got to go fourwheeling on some amazing rides while Weston got to play with his grandparents in their trailer. He had lots of fun playing with his little cousins, too. The worste part was when we got caught in the rain on the fourwheelers and it started to get muddy. We went back to camp and were soaking wet and muddy and cold. Christy had to drive my fourwheeler back because my goggles were fogged up and it was getting dark and I couldn't see. It was an adventure, though!

Back to High School with UAC

Yesterday morning I went to Alta High School to a Child Development class with a social worker and a birth mom and gave a presentation about adoption representing the Utah Adoption Council. We talked about being educated on ALL of our options before making an informed decisions about an unplanned pregnancy and did some exercises that the social workers do with Birth parents as they weigh their options.
When it was my turn, I just shared our adoption story from an adoptive parents' perspective and answered questions. I also brought pictures which they LOVED. It was way fun! I loved all the energy being in the High SChool and they asked some really great, smart questions- I was so impressed! I was just filling in for someone else last minute, but I hope to do it again!
It's kind of ironic, because I remember when they came and did that presentation to my health class when I was in high school, it really, really touched me. I think it sort of helped to prepare me to be excited when my life lead me to adoption. Sometimes for people dealing with infertility, it's easy to get stuck in the mode of unsuccessfully trying to conieve and not want to move on from there. Luckily it didn't take us too long to realize our goal was to become parents, not to become pregnant. And that's how adoption changed our life and made our dreams come true. It was a wonderful experience I wouldn't trade for anything because there was so much growth involved.
We also stress that birhtparents don't place their babies for adoption because they are bad people or because they don't want them. That seems to be a common misconception. On the contrary, they're usually really great people who LOVE their babies so much that they are willing to surrender their own feelings in order to give their child a better chance at life than their current circumstances permit.

My 1st Mother's Day as a MOTHER!

Let me just say I had the best weekend ever. Brett finished all of his finals so the weekend was ours all ours. CONGRATS on another semester down, baby!!
Thursday, we got a babysitter and went to see a movie. It's been a while since we've gotten a babysitter, so it was nice. We watched Push with Dakota Fanning. It was pretty good except we thought too many people get killed. Weston also had fun with Grandpa.
We had some friends over, went to the Engineers without borders carnival at Sugarhouse Park where we rode a mechanical bull & went through those blow up obstacle courses, then had friends over again. The mechanical bull is way fun, but harder than it looks. Okay, I'll admit it, I kind of sucked, but it was sooo fun! I had that "Live like you were dying' song in my head that says, 'I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named foo man chew."
THEN, we went to see Desert Star's "American Fork Idol" spoof. Oh my gosh, it was so funny! You've gotta go see it! We have season tickets and that was my favorite of all of the shows! Although Brett didn't think it was as great as I did. I think it must be because he's never watched American Idol on a regular basis?? I don't know, but all of the girls thought it was one of the best shows they've ever done, if not the best. (We get season passes with the couples in Brett's family.)
Sunday was Mother's Day. This week Weston has introduced MA-MA MOM-A MOM to his vocabulary! (Happy Mother's Day to me!) Church was absolutely wonderful and Weston was an angel. I am so impressed at him how he is so attentive and pays attention to the teachers, or whoever else is speaking at church. He's just so good! I bore my testimony and got all emotional about being thankful for my mom, and how greatful I was to be a Mom and how we were able to adopt Weston and go to the temple and be a forever family. I also mentioned how greatful I am to Weston's birthmom on Mother's Day. Like one guy said though, "I take comfort in the fact that most of you will leave here and forget everything I've said." Ha,ha. I also hope that everyone forgets how I was crying! My heart was so full though, I just couldn't help it.
One of our favorite families in our ward was holding our baby during sacrament and it was really cute to watch him. I got gifted from all sorts of unexpected people! Our church gave us an instrumental CD and Relief Society gave us a rose, as well as my sister in law. My visiting teacher is SO sweet! She wrote me a nice card and gave me a CD, also about motherhood. My mom got me a white hankerchief.
Brett didn't get the chance to get me a gift for Mother's Day, because we were together the whole busy weekend, but as you can tell I got plenty of recognition. Brett was so great though- he cooked me dinner, he did the dishes, he took the lion's share of Weston's cares, we went out, we got the house clean, he gave me a massage, he took the day off- so I was MORE than happy with the weekend exactly as it was. Too bad it's over!

Families Can Be Together Forever

On April 11th, we went to the new LDS Draper temple and got sealed together as an eternal family!

Weston was such an angel. Everyone commented on how he seemed to know what was going on as he seemed to listen to every word of the ceremony.
